Coenzyme Q10
Coenzyme Q10 lives in the mitochondria, where it helps produce energy, and it is also an antioxidant.
100–200 mg a day.
What it is
Its production falls with age (from 40 onwards) and statins reduce it considerably. Ubiquinol is its reduced form, ready to use.
What it is used for
The quiz suggests it when your answers justify it. It usually appears with these goals:
What the evidence says
Trials in people that point the same way, but still few, small or funded by the manufacturer.
Its levels fall with age. Meta-analyses of trials show a modest reduction in feelings of fatigue; in young, healthy people the effect is unclear.
| Year | What was studied | What was found | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2022 | Fatigue | Meta-analysis of 13 RCTs (1,126 people): it reduced fatigue compared with placebo, with a larger effect at higher doses and longer durations. | Tsai et al.Frontiers in Pharmacology |
What to look for on the label
- From the age of 40, ubiquinol is better: it is absorbed better.
Precautions
- If you take anticoagulants (it can reduce the effect of warfarin) or blood pressure medication (it can lower it a little further), ask first.
Where to find it
Products whose label meets what this profile asks for: form, dose per serving and nothing that contradicts it. Three at most: quality of the active comes first and, among the best, we look for one option in each price range. We choose by composition, not by who pays. The shops are European or ship to Europe.
